6. Raymond Chen wrote, "Why didn't they [Natives and Europeans] share the land with each other?" Due Friday

Every civilization has at least one story of their creation. Read the following two creation stories.

From the University of Washington library the Iroquois' Story of Creation

From the University of Virginia library the Bible's Story of Creation

Read deeper: What is the greatest similarity between the texts? What is the most significant contrast? (I suggest taking notes in a venn diagram, think carefully about what your think is significant and why)

Question: From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670, Why the slip from collaboration to conflict? Support your theory with specific quotes from the primary source links and the textbook.

From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670, Why the slip from collaboration to conflict? That is a good question and from the primary source links and my textbook, I have found alot of information, and I just might have a answer for that question.
I think that the Europeans changed the way they felt about the Iroquois because of religion.
I say this because while I was reading the two primary sources given on the weblog page I saw alot of differences.
One of them that I noticed, was that in the christian story God had started out with nothing, and he created everyting himself.
While in the Iroquoi story there was a great ruler and he already started out people(animals).
So that is why I think the Europeans had desided to kill of most of the Iroquoi nation because they did not have the same belifs that the Europeans did.

I think why they wouldn't share because they are very greedy and they will like all the land for them self. Also they wouldn't like to share because they will have more advantages with the land and make more money. So that's why i think they wouldn't share the land with each other.

Well if they were both at the same thanksgiving but then the got into war that make no sence but i do agree with Destinee the Europeans were very greedy people if you look back in textbooks and lesson mostly everything started in Eurpoe but my question is why? Their is some ways to answer Raymond's question but we weren't their we dont really know why they didnt want to share the land or how the world was made we know from what we see and learn but we were never their its all primary source's. So Raymonds question was good because they can lead to more question but how did he know for sure ?

Raymond's question is a little confusing because Raymond does not know for sure if they shared land or not but you can find infrences to find out. I agree with Imani Clarke because it can be because of religion and belife reasons. Do you think that the Natives would actually let the Europeans share land? A reason why I think the Europeans didn't share the land becasue of religion amd belfie reasons.
From the information that i found from the two primary sources is the Natives were not Christians and did not have a religion but the Europeans did. It is true what Destinee Garcia said. They are greedy and it can be because they want more land and make more money but you never know. Do you agree? There are alot of answers and opinions to Raymond's question. Do you know where we can know for sure?

Raymond Chen had a really good question. His question was Why did they [The Natives and Europeans] share the land with each other?"

I defiantly agree with what Destinee said because the Europeans were very greedy people and they would get more advantages. Truthfully, the question cannot be 100% accurately answered because we weren't there at the time therefore we can conclude anything other then predicting. Also, if we predict things, out predictions may lead to more and more questions.

Raymond Chen's question leads to many different answers. As i re-state Raymond chen's question: Why cant the Native Americans and Europeans live togather? The Europeans and Native Americans are two different people. The Natives lived in a totally different world then the Europeans. The Natives Americans provided land for themselves and did not rely on the help of other tribes. The Europeans interacted with each other especially when it came to trade. Another difference that set the Native Americans apart was that they did not have a sense of ownership. The whole tribe shared everything they had. But the Europeans on the other hand, needed property to gain respect from people. The natives did not pick on place and lived there forever, so they were constantly moving. This was on of the reasons that Europeans felt that they could take the Natives lands. One of the most very differences were their view of religon. The Europeans belived in Christianity and the Native americans belived in polytheistic. The fact that the natives were polytheistic was yet another reason that the Europeans felt that it was acceptable to own the Natives lands by simply taking over. From 1620 of having a thankgiving togather to King phlip's wars was mainly because Europeans were greedy and they did not want to share land. Also the reason was how native americans lived in New England's border which caused the population to be bigger.

Raymond Chen mentioned why didn't they[Natives and Europeans] share the land with each other?. I agree with Imani Clarke this war could have broken out because of relegion. According to the links provided on the blog, One link talks about God and his creations & the other link talks about the Iroquoi and a great ruler starting out with people(animals). In the link about God, God had to create the world from scratch and the Iroquoi already had people(animals). In addition, I agree with Destiny Garcia because the Europeans wouldn't give up the land and would keep it for themselves. Furthermore, they could use the land to make money and to grow crops. There are many reasons that can lead to this question. But since we cant go back in time we wouldn't know the true story.

Why didn't the Natives and the Europeans share land with eachother

Well I believe that the Europeans and the Natives didn't share land because the Europeans didn't like the life style of the natives. The Europeans had different points of life and God then the Natives. Their way of life was the right way while everyone who disagreed waere unhuman. The way life started to the Europeans was way different to the Natives which made the Europeans angry and appalled with them. I also believe that the European were greatly greedy and wanted evrything to themselves.

Raymond Chen had asked me why didn’t the Europeans just share the land with the Native Americans? The first thanksgiving was held in Massachusetts in 1620. It was a feast that the Dutch had with the Native Americans. When the British came to North America they forced all of the other countries out. The British then forced the Native Americans out. The British constantly were looking for power. They wanted to control everything. The Europeans also had many different beliefs than the Native Americans. The native Americans believed in a god that had gave them everything that they needed. The Europeans believed in a god that had to work hard.

From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670, Why the slip from collaboration to conflict? To anwer that question i will need to use specific quotes from the primary source links and the textbook. I agree with Imani Clarke because when you look at the
bible's creation of the earth god created it instead of in the Iroquois earth creation animals created the world. So just as Imani says the Europeans probably killed the Iroquois because of the religion.

Answer: my answer to that question is that when the europeans came, the native americans greeted them but then they took advantage of the native americans and tried to take over them and succeeded.I say this because in the story of the Iroquis story of creation Hah-gweh-da-et-gah was the first one the rightful ruler but then Hah-gweh-di-yu challenged him and Hah-gweh-di-yu won.

From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670, Why the slip from collaboration to conflict? That is a very good question. In my observations of the Iroquois Creation and the Bible, King James the slip from collaboration to conflict is by religion. The Native Americans believed in Polytheism. Polytheism is the belief in or worship of multiple deities, such as gods and goddesses. These are usually assembled into a pantheon, along with their own mythologies and rituals. The Europeans believed in Christainity. Christainity is a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus as presented in the New Testament. The Europeans have a lot of knowledge, technology, and natural recourses but the Native Americans did not. So, that’s why the Europeans did not share land with Native Americans because they don’t want to give knowledge, technology, and natural resources to them. The Iroquois Creation and the Bible, King James greatest similarity was that they both have a religion. The Iroquois Creation and the Bible, King James differences were that The Iroquois Creation started out with a great ruler and already started out with people, animals, and live. Bible, King James started out with a god that had nothing and than created everything by himself. King Philip's War, sometimes called Metacom's War or Metacom's Rebellion, was an armed conflict between Native American inhabitants of present-day southern New England and English colonists and their Native American allies from 1675–1676. Colonial historian Francis Jennings estimated that the War killed nearly 7 of every 8 Native Americans and 6 of every 13 English settlers. King Philip's War was proportionately one of the bloodiest and costliest in the history of America.More than half of New England's ninety towns were assaulted by Native American warriors. So this is why I think the Europeans had decided to kill most of the Iroquois nation because they did not have the same beliefs that the Europeans did.

The reason it went From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philips War in 1670 was because of the many differences between the Natives and the Europeans. When I read the two creation story's that was proof that the Natives and the Europeans were different. Yeah even though they had their time to enjoy each other with thanksgiving, time went by and the way the Europeans felt about the Iroquois changed. Maybe this war was started because over the fact that the Europeans couldn't control the Natives their religion, their clothes ,and their style. Also it could of started because maybe the Europeans started to think that since they were more advance they could of fight and win control over the Iroquois. This was one of the bloodiest and one of the most coldest wars in American history.

Raymond wrote "Why didn't the Natives and Europeans share the land with each other?”

The Europeans and Natives did not want to share lands because the Europeans wanted to own all of the land (caused by greed). Also it’s because both Europeans and the Natives had different beliefs. Since they have different beliefs they can’t agree with each other. The Indians believed in animals and the Europeans believed in god. This causes both Europeans and Natives to have war.

I asked Kiran Kaul: "If the Europeans wanted to claim land, but not kill and take over the Native Americans, why didn't they find some way to communicate and tell them that they just wanted to get some land for their country, and if that didn't work why didn't they share the land with each other?", and without realizing it for myself, it was so challenging to answer without more questions and answers that it is now this web log's question, restated to make it shorter. Now to sum things up, Mrs.Frederick is asking my question and adding "From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670, Why the slip from collaboration to conflict? Support your theory with specific quotes from the primary source links and the textbook."

To be honest, I can't even answer my own question myself. A question I'm still wondering about right now is why the Native American Indians had no illnesses that the Europeans hadn't been exposed to yet and infected by, which I asked in the prior web log. This seems very strange to me because of the fact that the diseases came from Asia, and Native American Indians come from there. Europe got it's diseases from Asia. This is what my answer to the web log question is...

The Native American Indians believed their creation was by Hah-gweh-da-et-gah and Hah-gweh-di-yu. Hah-gweh-da-et-gah destroyed the beauty on earth that Hah-gweh-di-yu had created. The Europeans believed another story happened when this world was created. They believed God took six days to create it. Then during these days, God added things that exist on earth that he wanted and thought was good.

As you can see, their (The Native American Indians and Europeans) beliefs are obviously very different from on another. The Europeans tried to make the Native Americans like them, and the Native Americans welcomed them and traded with them which was a mistake. They couldn't agree with each other due to religious beliefs. This is why Thanksgiving in 1620 turned into King Philip's War in 1670 and the slip from collaboration and conflict occurred.

From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670, it slipped from collaboration to conflict because during the 1600s Europeans began to reexamine their world, relations between colonists and the Native Americans had become tense by the 1670s. Battles between the groups intensified through the years. It was mainly about how the Europeans changed how the way they felt about the Iroquois because of religion and their beliefs. Metacomet a Wampanoag leader known as King Philip opposed the colonists’ efforts to take his people’s lands. In 1675 the tensions finally erupted in the conflict. The soldiers fought the Native American warriors; both sides attacked which ended up killing men, women and children. 600 colonists and 3000 Native Americans had been killed including King Philip. In exchange the colonists’ traded goods and as a result they both started relying on each other. English colonists traded and allied with the Iroquois League.
The Native Americans had a belief of the creation: Hah-gweh-di-yu claimed the right to beautify the island, while Hah-gweh-da-et-gah determined to destroy. But the Europeans had a different belief, which was how it took six days to create it and how he would add things that he thought would be good. Due to religion and beliefs, this is why Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's War in 1670 and why it slipped from collaboration and conflict.

Raymond wrote "Why didn't the Natives and Europeans share the land with each other ?
I think that they would not share because the Native Americans thought that their was a gift of there good acts and so the Gods and spirits rewarded them with food (plants or crops), shelter, and each other.
The Europeans wanted the land because in Europe the geography was different could not grow the same things so they wanted to take over the land so they could sell them for lots of money and take the reward for the treasures since they were greedy.
This answer is not 100% right because we have no historical evidence so Raymond question cant be answered right.

I also agree with Destinee Garcia. This is because if the people of England really liked the Native Americans they wouldn't have attacked over land! Another reason they may have killed the Native Amereicans could have been religion. The "gods" were a big part of Europe. They may have believed the Natve Americans religion was very wronge and decided it was to much. Thats when they decided to kill them. (the the native americans.)One reason they may have killed them over land is because, they may have thought they (the Europeans) could have a better chance with more land. This again falls under the "greedy" catagory. Still maybe they were planning to kill them all along until they realized how much land there. Thats when they thought it could give them more reason to kill them. Another thng be that the natives may have tried to fight them first. They may have felt threatened by them or maybe they ddn't trust them (smart but too late) and soon decided to attack them. Then they had lost the battle and died.

I think that the Native Americans and the Europeans did not share the land with each other because i read Imanies comment and I wanted to add on. Since im crystian i was taught to belive that one the first day gog made the sky, on the seconed day god made land, on the thiered day he made oceans on theforth day he madehe made plants on the sixeth there were animals, and humans. Finalyonthe seventh day everyone relaxed.
I agree with what Imani said.

From Thanksgiving in 1620 to King Philip's war in 1670, why slip from collaboration to conflict? This is raymond's question. It is a good one. From what i have read, it is mainly religion. From what i read,The christan god had started out with nothing, but the Iroquios god had already made people and animals. The europeans thought this was the wrong idea of how life was made, so they killed the native americans. But we really don't know the real answer. Which god was right, the european god or the Iroquios god? We'll never know the answer to that question, but we should always respect each other's religion because we all have different religions and different ideas of how life was formed on earth.
